Classes are held each Saturday that school is held, in line with the Victorian public school term dates. Burwood campus runs from 9:00am – 12:00pm, and Springvale campus runs from 2:00pm – 5:00pm.

Each Saturday, classes consist of two 80-minute sessions with a 20-minute break time in between, totalling 3 hours of learning each week.

Please refer to our Term Dates page for the exact dates for each term.

All staff hold a Working With Children Check and the school complies with Victorian Child Safe Standards.
Our students consistently achieve excellent results in VCE Chinese. In recent years, raw study scores for Unit 3 and Unit 4 have averaged 36–38, which scales to approximately 46–48 based on 2024 scaling. Chinese Second Language is a high-scaling subject, giving students a strong ATAR advantage. These results reflect the quality of teaching and support provided at MCES, helping both second language learners and native speakers succeed.

From Prep to Year 8, all textbooks are included in the school fees. For PVC and VCE, textbooks are an additional cost. All students need to bring are a Pencil Case water bottle and a snack for the 20-minute recess between lessons.

Parents may only stay to observe during trial classes. Outside of trial classes, parents are asked not to remain on campus during school hours.

Attend class at the Burwood campus at Forest Hill College on Saturdays from 9:30am – 12:00pm. Parents can attend a trial class to see if it is something they are interested in. The Tai Chi class runs at the same time as our Chinese school.

For students with no prior Mandarin experience, we generally recommend starting in Prep or Year 1, depending on age. For example, a 7 year old is recommended to start in Year 1, as the main difference is that Year 1 begins formal character writing, whereas Prep focuses on only speaking, reading, and listening.
