Curriculum Overview: Prep to Year 7

Prep / 幼儿班 

Textbook: 我的中文书 幼儿班
Children in Prep learn greetings, numbers, family members, colours, and body parts. They begin learning Pinyin initials, finals, and the four tones, sing nursery rhymes, recognize Chinese numbers, family members, colours, stationery, pets, farm animals, and fruits, and practice using simple classroom and polite language.

Year 1 / 第一册 – Textbook: 我的中文书 第一册
Topic: 家人和问候 (Family and Greetings)
Students review Prep knowledge and continue learning Pinyin, including initials, finals, and tones. They study character radicals and correct stroke order, use new vocabulary to form simple sentences, sing nursery rhymes, and speak basic classroom and polite language.

Year 2 / 第二册 – Textbook: 我的中文书 第二册
Topic: 身体和功能 (Body and Functions)
Students consolidate Pinyin knowledge and learn quantifiers, radicals, and grouped words. They practice simple polite expressions and classroom language, discuss topics related to the text, and tell the time and date.

Year 3 / 第三册 – Textbook: 我的中文书 第三册
Topic: 食物和日期 (Food and Dates)
Students strengthen Pinyin skills and learn vocabulary related to food, meals, and dates. They are introduced to Tang poems and classical texts, practice reading and reciting, understand sentence structure, and use polite and classroom language fluently.

Year 4 / 第四册 – Textbook: 我的中文书 第四册
Topic: 颜色和衣服 (Colours and Clothing)
Students expand their knowledge with topics on colours, clothing, seasons, and climate. They learn fairy tales, Tang poems, and texts about places of interest in China, as well as diary entry formats and storytelling with polite, moral lessons.

Year 5 / 第五册 – Textbook: 我的中文书 第五册
Topic: 学校的生活 (School Life)
Students explore school life and Chinese culture. They continue learning fairy tales, idioms, and ancient poems, study Chinese places of interest, and begin learning about Chinese food culture and traditional Chinese medicine.

Year 6 / 第六册 – Textbook: 我的中文书 第六册
Topic: 家庭生活 / 动物和蔬菜 (Family Life / Animals and Vegetables)
Students study idiom stories, historical figures, and continue exploring Chinese food culture, traditional festivals, and folk stories. They develop reading, writing, and storytelling skills using increasingly complex sentences.

Year 7 / 第七册 – Textbook: 我的中文书 第七册
Topic: 家庭生活 / 气候和季节 (Family Life / Climate and Seasons)
Students focus on family life, seasons, and climate, consolidating previous language skills while developing more advanced reading, writing, and conversational abilities. They study longer texts, classical poems, cultural topics, and continue building confidence in using Chinese in daily communication.
